“Offer to God a sacrifice of praise, and fulfill your vows to the Most High. Then call on me on the day of distress; I will rescue you, and you shall honor me.” (Psalm 50:14)
We need to spend more time praising God together as a couple. Praising God with songs and words — if we put enough effort into it and reach the spiritual place where we feel our soul’s connection to God — cheers us and makes us be someone who’s enjoyable to be around.
My favorite method for accomplishing this is an internet radio app on my cell phone (or its website on my computer browser) and choosing a Praise and Worship station. By giving a thumbs up to the songs that help me most, I have fine-tuned this app to serve as a truly uplifting and encouraging spiritual tool.
In fact, I can ask God to choose which song comes on first when I start the app, and he does! And it ministers to me. Worry, anger and fear turn to joy, hope, and love.
We are not being Christ for our beloved and our families when we’re grumbly and focused on what’s bad. Sure, it’s not easy turning our mood around, but it’s holy. The Vocation of Marriage is the calling to lead our spouses and children closer to God. Praising God in good times and especially in bad times helps us fulfill that calling.
- How much effort do I put into praising God?
- In what ways is my beloved a good example of Christ’s joy?
Strengthen your relationship:
Describe to each other your favorite ways of praising God. Then spend some time praising God together, starting with thankfulness for meeting each other.
