What is true love?

Ralph & Terry Modica in 2007True love is knowing beyond all doubt that both of you are committed to be faithful to one another and remain together no matter what.

Many couples who fall in love have really only fallen in love with the idea of being in love.

True love does not exist until you reach the mature love that imitates Christ. And mature love can never be reached until the stresses of life test the relationship.

What does this mature love look like?
1. Always be willing and ready to forgive.
2. Always be willing to love when the other person is most unlovable.

No one can guarantee that the love you feel now will last. The only thing we can guarantee is that your marriage will come under attack. Every marriage reaches a point where divorce feels like an option. It can even feel like it’s the only option. But this is never true when Christ is involved.

The commitment to remain in the marriage no matter what will eventually produce other solutions. It’s the only difference between marriages that last and marriages that don’t. And both husband and wife need to know that both have this commitment.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How do I know that my beloved is committed to me?
  2. How do I let my beloved know that I am committed to him/her?

Strengthen your relationship:
Make a statement of commitment to each other. Then pray together, asking Jesus to fortify this commitment. End your prayer by thanking Jesus for his faithful commitment to you both and to your relationship.
